My best friend Anca runs this website, and makes all the jewelry by hand in her humble skyrise apartment in Beijing when she isn’t teaching Chinese babies how to babble in English. Check out the website, and splurge a little :p Shop here: http://blog.adara.ro/
Pink Valentine’s cookies: Raspberry-strawberry dark chocolate
Chunking chocolate like Tom’s brombær adds great fruit flavor while providing various sized chocolate bites into the cookie makes each bite super interesting. You can see the great texture it leaves.
The boyfriend adored these fruity chocolate cookies so much, we ate all 2 dozen in one night, and now I can’t wait to make more 🙂
I plan on making my own flavor variations of this next week. I hope it is as amazing as my mind and belly thinks it is.
The last few days I’ve been super busy preparing for my hasty departure from Denmark to China. I have been struggling with how I will obtain my visa, since the embassy in Copenhagen won’t grant me a visa because I’m only a tourist here, so I have had to redirect my travels to Hong Kong so I can buy a visa there and take the 26 hour train journey northward to Beijing. What a nuisance. Today I had to contact my annoying phone company because my 3 month suspension is about to expire and I don’t get service here or in Asia, and I don’t want to pay $100 dollars a month not to use something. If anyone is familiar with how Verizon or any of its competition likes to run business, you know that they require a nasty early contract breachment fee. Frankly, I think it is stupid to charge someone close to $200 dollars to get rid of some shitty service they no longer want. I am extremely tight on money, and have no desire to pay those bastards anything to get rid of their service. So, I decided to find a way around the cancellation fee, and this is what I discovered:
1. Call Customer Service or just dial *611 from your phone and select the option to temporarily suspend service
2. Every 90 days, remember to call back and simply resuspend your phone if necessary. You can call the same number to reactivate your phone.
They charge you 0.00 to suspend your phone and send you monthly 0.00 balances to your email so you know that they aren’t charging your account. When I spoke to the kind agent on the phone today she told me that it is possible to do this, for as long as you need without ever being charged. You only have to remember to call every 90 days to resuspend your account free of charge. So, while I’m not sure exactly when I will ever return to the States, I now don’t have to pay a single cent for a service I’m not using, and I don’t have to pay their money grubbing asses any money to cancel and then reopen an account. The best part about all this, is that you get to keep your phone number, and you just finish out the number of months left on your contract, when you are able to.
I have a weird knack for avoiding the flu. When I was a kid I used to carry a can of lysol around the house and douse anything my siblings touched when they were ill. I’ve gotten more sophiscated over the years, and only until today realized, I haven’t been ill in over 10 years.
Yesterday, I felt something coming on. My throat was on fire and my body ached all over. But this morning, I was running 3 miles in -10 C weather and felt as good as ever. My secret? Hold on to your hats ladies and gentlemen…
Broccoli and Blueberries
Every since I could remember my go to foods have always been steamed broccoli and blueberry juice. Last night however, I had to make due with a slight variation to my usual remedies.
I made a powerful nose clearing, throat soothing soup from 1 head of broccoli, 3 carrots, and 2 potatoes, boiled in vegetable boulon. Voila! I soaked up all the juices with a fresh baguette and then enjoyed yummy blueberries in yogurt for a healthy and naturally sweet dessert. The most important part of the night however was the tea. Tea is my sworn friend for life. My extensive stay in China opened my awareness to the powerful effects of tea. If you ever feel anything but 100%, green tea is my first suggestive cure. Let me explain briefly why I am such a huge supporter of green tea.
Green tea is the reason I and millions of other people stay so healthy. There is a staggering fact I quickly learned from locals about their famous tea leaves. China has the HIGHEST smoking rate, but the LOWEST lung cancer rate. The average Chinese person drinks on average, 1 liter of green tea a day. Coincidence? I think not. The antioxidants in green tea can do amazing things for smokers and non smokers alike. I have also come to understand a bit about Chinese medicine, and am now a firm believer in the power of hot water. Drink nothing but hot water. It is amazing for your digestive tract.
If you find my tips helpful, please share them with everyone you know. Being sick is everyone’s least favorite thing in the world, and these suggestions have been proven to make you better fastest, without the use of harmful medicines. There’s a reason I never missed a single day of school or work…broccoli and blueberries 🙂
First impressions are everything, especially in cyberworld. Since you have no clue who I am, or why I am so awesome, I will help you understand.
I am not new to the blogging world. I have a very extensively kept blog on Livejournal under the same name. Feel free to read those postings if you care to, but they are nothing like what I hope to keep here. I came to realize today that all my writings over the last few years have been put out there on the internet, and yet it hasn’t been open for everyone. What is the point of keeping a blog or a journal on the internet if it is not meant to be read? You might as well keep a pen and paper diary under your pillow and scribble in it everynight about your thoughts. That’s worthless bullshit. I want to use my extensive knowledge and my ability to entertain, to rock the world.
You see, I’m not a quiet person, not by a long shot. I crave socialization, and since I’m constantly on the move, it is hard for me to have consistent daily interactions with folks. Therefore, I have turned to the internet to satsify my longings for friendship and intellectual stimulation. I like to pick up my life and move across countries a few times a year, usually with no purpose and especially with no plan. I don’t care to think about how I will get by everyday, I just know that I will. I am currently in Denmark, living quite comfortably, but I have an itch to transplant my life again, already. I only just arrived here 2 months ago, after abruptly leaving my job and all my stuff in New Orleans and catching the first flight out with my last $80 dollars in my pocket. Not the wisest decision I’ve made, but by far the most satisfying. You see, my boyfriend lives here, and after a year and a half of constantly traveling around the world to see each other for a few weeks at a time, I gave in and left everything behind to be with him. It has been great to spend so much time with each other, but I can’t quiet the beast inside me that says ‘time to go.’ So, on to my next stop….Beijing…hopefully anyhow. I only have $3.58 dollars to my name, and as far I remember, that’s not enough for a plane ticket and a visa. But I always scrape by.
So, if I have interested you in some small way, I do hope you will come back for more, becuase there is so much more, oh so much….like this little gem I found from my time in Huzhou, China:
